Tunica Externa returns with three tracks of ambient and post rock on the project's most recent album "Sorrows & Surreality". Recorded using only guitars and pedal effects, Tunica Externa touches again upon the familiar territory of ponderous melancholy, swaying very subtly between the hushed chatter of ambient hollow tones and flickering guitar melodies that flow with crystalline purity. Each of these tracks follows that bipolar formula of descending into despondent emotional valleys, before climbing back out into the amber sunrise with the aid of uplifting melody. The post rock in "Sorrows & Surreality" is understated, soft, and doesn't seek out the climactic releases of more familiar post rock. It doesn't seek it out because the whole album is a release in and of itself.
There is confusion and disbelief here, in these tones and notes, but there is hope and love.
This album is for the thinkers, for the lost, and for those caught up in the hopeless glory of love.
